See what happened at the Open Doors
Welcome to the open doors of Elsa's Ekopaja - Tar soap stories at a campfire.
Time Friday 6.10. from 12:00 to 17:00.
Place: Elsa Ekopaja soap factory, Vuohkalliontie 9, 18200 Heinola.
The event takes you into the fascinating world of tar soap. At the event, we are launching two very cool products:
- Metsäinen Pesupala: Light hiker's string soap made from Karvilan Panimon's Savulager beer and grave tar. You can wash your hands, armpits and hair with the forest washcloth. The tarry piece of grass has been created in collaboration with Elsa Ekopaja and camping journalist, "Retkinikkari" Joppe Ranna.
- Pehtoori beer-tar chunk shampoo. The second newcomer to Pehtoor's tar series, the piece shampoo is a much-coveted novelty! Now tar lovers can enjoy the tender properties of grave tar in their hair as well.
What can you experience during the day?
- Hiking journalist and Hiker Joppe Ranta sets up Elsa in Ekopaja's yard to the southwest, in front of which Kaskinuotio is burning. Loue is the only authentically Finnish open-fire bed, where people have been sleeping in the glow of tar fires for almost a hundred years. Joppe tells about testing travel soaps and how they created a magazine article. Joppe also tells where the idea for the Metsäinen pesupala came from and shows what materials it is made of.
Even when listening to stories, it's nice to sit in the embrace of the sun and fry a stick bun. Tikkuppula and coffee are served in Elsa's Ekopaja yard. In the yard, you can also wash your hands with a new piece of laundry and participate in the research. We investigated how many times you can wash your hands outdoors with Metsäinen's washcloth.
- You can visit the factory indoors. We have also organized nice activities inside:
*Soap maker Aliisa presents the production of tar shampoo, the tools, molds and machines needed for soap production, as well as the fascinating chemistry of soap. At the end of the day, you will understand how soap is made by hand, and why soap is not "boiled", as the old folk may still remember
* Packaging of soap shavings made during waste week. You can creatively and beautifully craft soap packages and pack soaps that we donate to needy families as a Christmas present. So you get to join in doing good together with Elsa's Ekopaja.
*If there are chicks hatching in Elsa's Ekopaja hen, which is currently being incubated by a Nipa hen, the chicks will also be included in the open doors. We are waiting with excitement, the chicks should hatch on 27.9. Follow the chicks' journey on social media.
*Testing of new tar products: We are developing a new forest tar product, so you are automatically included in the test group and get to share your opinion on each product being developed.
* The factory store is open and a cheerful Asta will serve you. In the factory store, of course, in honor of the open doors, many products are on sale.
A warm welcome to the open doors of Elsa's Ekopaja!
Hoping entrepreneurs Mari Tiira and Jenni Äijälä, and Hiker Joppe Ranta.
